Oliver’s Seat

The best part of projects like this is to take a simple idea and make it ‘out of the ordinary’. With a little imagination, a garden swing becomes a Victorian folly or an elaborate pergola for scented plants.

Joel, my eldest boy and apprentice and I were able to build this on site over a couple of days, though we spent several weeks in the workshop shaping and jointing the timber.

Shaping big section pieces of wood and then using ancient scarf joints is awesome work, and building the turret on this project was a lot of fun.

I used reclaimed oak railway sleepers for all the work which changes colour over time to the natural silver grey colour.
